Deputy CEO– The Deputy CEO serves as the secondary contact for the MMIA Board of Directors as well as a resource for information on each program, product and the materials offered through MMIA. This position assists the CEO with the management and supervision of the MMIA programs/staff and acts as the department head for the Liability, Property and Risk Management departments. They also work extensively with the member city councils, commissions, civic groups, multi-pool organizations and the general public.
As the manager of the Workers' Compensation Claims Unit, the Claims Manager is responsible for supervising and coordinating tasks and schedules in the Workers' Compensation Department. She reviews adjuster claims files to ensure they have operated according to all claims processing guidelines. She also acts as a facilitator and mentor by overseeing claims committee meetings and is instrumental in all examiner training. Working with the MMIA Board of Directors, MMIA legal counsel and the MMIA Board Claims Committee, she ensures that claims are handled in a manner that addresses all potential political and legal concerns.
The Workers' Compensation Claims Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating tasks and schedules in the Worker’s Compensation Claims Unit. This position reviews claim files to ensure all claims have been processed according to the MMIA Claims Handling Guidelines. This position also acts as a facilitator and mentor by overseeing claims committee meetings and is instrumental in all claims examiner training. While managing a claims load, this position also works with the MMIA Board of Directors, MMIA legal counsel and the MMIA Board Claims Committee to ensure that claims are properly handled.
The Claims Examiner is also responsible for adjusting complex worker’s compensation claims for MMIA member cities. Responsiblities include establishing liability, conducting investigations, calculating wage loss benefits and establishing claims reserves. The position deals extensively with the MMIA membership, medical/rehabilitation providers, as well as MMIA Counsel. It is required that this position must stay up to date on changes in relevant legislation and court cases as Worker’s Compensation is heavily driven by statute. Training for this position is conducted primarily by the Worker’s Compensation Claims Manager.
The Medical Only Claims Examiner is responsible for receiving and coding incoming claims in addition to handling a medical-only claims load. Responsibilities include establishing liability for member communities for acceptance/denials of medical-only claims, verification of appropriate medical treatment including pharmacy and other necessary services according the the appropiate statutes and court cases. Training for this position is conducted primarily by the Workers' Compensation Claims Manager.
