As the head of the Risk Management Unit, the Interim COO acts as the head Risk Manager and is responsible for supervising the unit, (overseeing all unit administration and training) while in many cases also acting as an independent risk specialist. He conducts numerous risk management training sessions, policy and contract reviews, loss control surveys and inspections. To disseminate this information to the membership the COO creates Risk Management Bulletins.
Assistant Risk Manager/Property Program Manager - While managing the MMIA property program, the Assistant Risk Manager/Property Program Manager is involved extensively with communications and education of the MMIA membership in the areas of loss control and risk management. He is the head of the MMIA editorial board, sits on the MMIA website committee, and assists the Risk Manager as needed on conducting risk management training for the membership.
Human Resource and Risk Management Programs Manager - This position assists the Risk Manager coordinate and direct all of MMIA’s risk management programs and also serves as the primary Employment Practices Risk Manager. In addition, this position oversees the Employment Practices Liability Insurance Program which entails reviewing all personnel policies and job descriptions of members so as to ensure they meet the EPLI program’s underwriting criteria. Position provides direct risk management consulting and to the membership; and supervises and coordinates the tasks and schedules of the Risk Management Specialists and Member Service / Training Coordinator positions.
Risk Management Specialist - The goals of this position are to reduce member costs due to workers compensation claims and liability claim losses. There will be development programs and training in the areas of effective claims management, early return to work/light duty programs, how to implement pre-employment physicals and how to limit claim length when employees need to move on to different work. The program will also work closely with MMIAs Workers Compensation Section to help assure members learn about important changes in Workers Compensation and Liability laws and practices. The Risk Management Program will also offer training in the safety area including effective compliance with the Montana Safety Culture Act, safety auditing and work place modification and best practices for safety, best practices in targeted safety problem areas such as back safety, and how to increase supervisor and employee accountability for work place safety.
Member Services Representative/Training Coordinator - This position coordinates MMIA’s member services, communications, and training programs with an emphasis toward risk management activities in all MMIA program areas. The position assists in assessing the risk management needs for workers’ compensation, property protection, liability, and employee benefit exposures of MMIA member communities utilizing both data analysis, on-site review, and member surveys. Collected data, and resultant analysis, will be translated into member-specific risk management training efforts. Position is responsible for the development of the MMIA Newsletter and risk management related content provided on MMIA’s website.
