Risk Management
The MMIA Risk Management Department is involved in making assessments of the risks/exposures present in a member city’s action or activity (risk identification), determining whether to transfer or retain risk and how to finance any remaining risk (risk financing). The diverse makeup of the MMIA membership makes this task very multifaceted.
The MMIA has placed a great deal of emphasis on the education of its membership. The Risk Management Department provides quarterly newsletters, risk management bulletins, individual, joint training and risk management sessions, assistance with personnel and operational policies, contract review, training video library, job description development assistance, safety program assistance and "walk-through" risk management evaluations. The Risk Management unit staff all share additional duties in various MMIA departments.
